baseball & mascot fans rejoice, teddy has finally won!
teddy roosevelt (as pictured), former president of the united states and currently one of four mascots that compete in the washington nationals’ presidents race in dc, has won. teddy was previously 0-525.
over the past couple of the months, the topps bunt app has reached version 2.0 and beyond, an iphone version, new avatars, and becoming snappier and slicker. if you haven’t downloaded or looked at it recently, what are you waiting for? it’s free. there isn’t much baseball season left. do it. go. now. i’ll wait.
added bonus: the app has been taken over for a limited time by none other than darryl strawberry, former mets superstar. i am not a mets fan (mets suck!), but as an illustrator i’ll whore myself to the all-mighty dollar. thus, i drew darryl, only losing a small piece of my soul in the process. please enjoy this hate filled drawing.

if you didn’t know, i love baseball (i even have a minor league name-doppelgänger, sadly he’s in the nationals’ farm system, but i still wish him well). so when i was approached by topps (yes, topps!) to create avatars for their new ipad app, i think we can comfortably say that i was shit giddy. bunt is a baseball companion app that merges old school card collecting and fantasy sports. collect and trade your favorite players and track them in real time. players’ points are based on stats throughout the season. slumping? dump him. streaking? go get that young star. or, if you’re a homer like me, just go with your favorite team.
the bunt team is already working on updates, enhancements, and more avatars for the app, so have at it and let me know what you think. issues? comments? glowing reviews? i know people, they’ll love to hear it all.

wahoo, it’s baseball playoff time! the phillies are back in the playoffs, and so’s the phanatic. he’s got a beard, he’s got a hell of a starting rotation, and he’s pissed.

last night, for only the second time in their long history, the philadelphia phillies won the world series! i am elated today, philly sounds like an insane place to be right now, good times, wahooo! of course the phanatic is all a-tizzy, and the eben+sonheir combination is at it again…

the phillies won the nl east again! second year in a row! the mets also collapsed again, but i’m not the type of guy who would revel in that. what happened, happened, no need even to mention it in this post. bring on the brewers, and maybe this year the phillies will win a game in the playoffs.
on a related phillies note, son and heir contacted me about making a t-shirt with the drawing of the philly phanatic from last year, and that shirt is ready for the playoffs. there are also nice shirts for other baseball teams. mr. sonheir himeself is a cubs fan, whom i am willing to root for in the first round, however, let’s be honest…go phils! check it and tell’m eben sent you.

in fact this is not the alex meyer of this here website. this alex meyer is 6’7″, 200lbs, a right handed pitcher, and was drafted in the 20th round by the boston red sox (but can you draw mr. meyer!?). a highly sought after high school pitcher, he will be attending the university of kentucky in the fall and was recently named the greensburg daily news’ male athlete of the year:
In just 51 1/3 innings of work, Meyer notched 108 strike-outs including 17 in the Regional Championship game where he posted a 3-1 decision against New Palestine.
He ended an unbeaten season in which he allowed but 19 hits, with an ERA of 0.95. That gave him a place among the state leaders in all three categories – earned run average, strike-outs, and wins.

it was fun while it lasted, but it didn’t last long (grumble). the phillies laid a big egg against colorado, and all the excitement that filled the eben sails is now gone. back to drawing NON-phanatic drawings.
