hemispheres: zodiac race

the chinese zodiac is based on a ancient myth that the entire animal kingdom raced across a river, with the 12 winning animals included and creating the order in the zodiac calendar. artist duke riley recently re-raced the 12 winners which yielding a slightly different order. the illustration i created is not a visualization, but a completely faithful recreation of this event.

emusic: stone arabia

for dana spiotta’s new book, stone arabia, emusic asked five artists to create five fake album covers for five of the fake albums in the book. my cover was for the album, take me home and make me fake it, by the fakes. added bonuses, emusic posted the author’s response to each of the covers, and the la times book blog reviewed the fake covers (sort of).

pigeon walking

i drew a pigeon for a project.
- oooh! is this a sample from a feature length animation!?
nope. just effing around, but hey, it’s a treat!
- oh, okay. not to be rude, but the pigeon’s walk cycle is, well, it’s a bit screwed up.
shut it.

frankie

crap, frankie the cat got into my vectors! i think i have embarrassed and/or emasculated myself with this doodle, however, to quote the renowned cat whisperer dr. tobias a. carroll, “who’s a pretty kitty?”

american museum of natural history

had myself a drawing day at the american museum of natural history, a great museum to spend the day wandering through or sitting and drawing. of course i am a fan of the dioramas, which are great to draw, but it’s also a big enough museum to come across areas i have never been to before. the gem room in particular is amazing. dark, difficult accessibility, designed in the 70′s, it’s not for everyone, but it’s worth a visit.
