voting: presidential election

ao and i got up and headed to the voting booth this morning. for most elections, the line is at most five deep, and that’s probably optimistic. this presidential election, while we didn’t have a 3 hour wait or a line circling the block, there were a good 50 people waiting to get into the polling station and another 20 or so in line for our district, it was quite exciting, (scroll down to see my ballot) and don’t forget . . . vote early! vote often!

on another election note, one of my professors from art school, d.b. dowd, is illustrating the election for the st louis beacon.

hooray, snow!

it’s actually snowing out there. as snowy winters go, this one has been pretty unimpressive. i got to shovel a little, and well, that’s about it. but hooray, snow! if you are wondering, that’s not my bike, just the one that parked outside of the apt that’s always there, rusting away, yet good for photos.

eben snow tagged photos, there aren’t many.

halloween

ever hear the story of anna and the dremel? well, it’s got lots of blood, pumpkins guts, and severed bits. grizzly, yet heartwarming.

eben vs. the bicycle

last wednesday i was in a bicycle on bicycle accident and my hands got broke up a bit (middle finger of my left hand broken, right hand fractured…boxer break), including the left (aka the drawing hand). updates may be a little slow for the time being as i heal and until i am able to work at the computer and drawing table more gooder.

now with photos!

eben vs. the bicycle

now with x-ray! this the middle finger on my left hand, and no, that’s not the direction my finger is supposed to be going.

x-ray

further explanation: i was riding on the williamsburg bridge, along came two approaching bicycles, one of which passed the other without looking for oncoming traffic (me!), and when i yelled and attemped to slow/get out of the way, the passing cyclist in his surprise veered more into my path. eben had nowhere to go, but pavement.

afleet alex vs. alex eben meyer

it’s the final countdown to ‘man vs. beast’, ‘beast vs. man’, ‘alex vs. alex’, ‘afleet vs. eben’!

this saturday, be witness to the historical event, it’s ‘alex vs. alex’, for the supremacy of philadelphia. now, some of you might be asking, isn’t afleet alex a horse, and therefore, well, fast? and for that matter, isn’t eben one of the slower of foot that we have ever seen? needless to say, won’t this not even be a contest at all? my answer to you naysayers is…probably, but screw you for lacking in faith!

alex vs. alex

music to listen to while thinking about this epic event: final countdown.
gosh, i want to go experience history: belmont park and stakes race.
hey! i want to lose money: otb (off track betting).

prospect park, 60th birthday bbq

thank you to everyone who came out to prospect park to celebrate kandle’s and my birthdays. we had a great time. thanks tobias for your documentarian skills. if anyone has photos, i would love to see them.

also, much love to silver for making an old man with a faulty memory’s dreams come true.

the bbq went off without a hitch (well, the kickball didn’t last), the sun was out, everyone had a good time, and the piñata was in full flame.

prospect park, 60th birthday bbq

oh how that dragon mocked us…”look how high i am in the sky! come and get me!”

prospect park, 60th birthday bbq

yup, this is pretty much how the middle and end of the bbq looked to most of us. note: this photo is not turned sideways, prospect park was actually at an angle on saturday, hence silver’s inability to stand.

prospect park, 60th birthday bbq

piñata number 1 made a lovely top hat (thanks sb!). considering ao and i still seem to be on our feet, this must have been early in the bbq.

the gates project in central park

i signed up to help install the gates project this weekend in central park. i’m having a wonderful time, and everyone seems to be enjoying it (if not for being a little sore from the lifting and a lot tired from the having to be at the park at 7am). i even was quoted by the ap (down at the bottom). all in all, for someone who spends as much time as i do it front of the computer, this sure is a lot of physical labor. outdoors? picking up heavy things?

here are a few sites where you can view the progress of the project: wolfgang volz (official project photographer) and nycgates, or just walk on over to central park and see it with your own eyes (if you happen to be in nyc).

my back, during the morning of the gates project unfurling.

tucson, az

i was playing pingpong with my siblings over the weekend, and nothing like a little sibling rivalry to bring out the best in an individual. as i dashed their hopes and dreams of ever being able to defeat me in the game of pingpong, i decided to document my victories, and for some reason, my brother and sister think that i am an ass.
